In her former years Dr Soraya Felix had a colourful background in her home country Brazil, spanning from scientific research right through to supervising high-level government projects which until this very day, much of her work still forms part of the foundational structure in various fields of science in Brazil.
Dr Soraya Felix first completed a double undergraduate degree in Biology and Chemistry. She went on to complete an additional seven years of research to acquire an honours degree in Molecular Biology, under the very strict supervision of Professor Fernando Ubatuba who is most renowned for his Nobel winning prize contribution in the discovery of Prostacyclin. This discovery was instrumental for the development of Aspirin in later years. After her honours degree she went on to complete a Masters in Pharmacology and a double undergraduate in Medicine and Surgery.
Dr Soraya Felix later contributed to research work for the World Health Organisation, in recognition of her work she was endorsed to become an expert advisor to the Brazilian national regulatory body governing Pharmaceuticals. During this period Dr Soraya Felix was then appointed to a senior role in the government as the advisor to the Brazilian Minister of Health. As the prime advisor she was responsible for supervising several projects of national interest. During this time she worked close hand with Professor Sergio Ferreira who contributed to the discovery of the first active peptide Bradykinin, this also paved the way for the first ace inhibiter. Professor Ferreira and Dr Soraya Felix collaborated on many successful projects together.
After completing her tenure in office, Dr Soraya Felix migrated to Australia, with consideration of the academic calibre of both Universities and supervisors she was immediately awarded complete recognition for her former degrees in Australia. Even though she had full recognition, Dr Soraya Felix decided to repeat the double undergraduate degree of Medicine and Surgery at the Flinders University of South Australia.
After her graduation she went on to complete a further three years of specialist training at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Adelaide, she then completed her Fellowship with the Royal College of General Practice. Dr Soraya Felix has since completed an additional 11 years of extensive formal training and rigorous examinations in various fields.
Dr Soraya Felix is committed to the education of future Physicians, she taught for many years in a training program provided for overseas doctors to obtain their Australian medical qualifications, held at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Adelaide. She was also a co-joint lecturer at the Medical School of The Newcastle University, NSW.
